After two days with new cases over 500, the number dropped below the mark Saturday, according to the Ohio Department of Health.

The 486 new COVID-19 cases reported Saturday are up from the daily average of 298 for the past 21 days, with the delta variant largely to blame for the increase.

The state had a total of 1,116,808 cases as of Saturday, with 20,437 deaths. The ODH provides death information on Tuesdays and Fridays. The Mahoning Valley saw an increase of 17 cases since Friday and an increase of 80 in the past week.

Mahoning County had 22,487 total COVID-19 cases, an increase of three since Friday and up 26 since July 11.

Trumbull County had 16,647 total COVID-19 cases Saturday, an increase of seven since Friday and up 27 since July 11.

Columbiana County had 9,085 total COVID-19 cases Saturday, an increase of seven since Friday and up 27 since July 11.

The ODH website shows every county in Ohio has at least one case, and 53 percent of the cases are women, while 46 percent are men. It also shows 60 percent of the cases are white people, 11 percent are black, 19 percent are unknown, 5 percent are listed as “other,” 2 percent are multiracial and 1 percent are Asian. The rest of the cases are American-Indian or Alaskan, and Hawaiian or Pacific Islander.
