Evacuations ordered for Markleeville area as Alpine County wildfire burns

Evacuations have been ordered for the Tamarack Fire burning in Alpine County near Markleeville, the Alpine County Sheriff’s Office.The fire is burning six miles south of Markleeville and has charred 6,600 acres, as of 7:30 a.m. Saturday morning, according to Humboldt Toiyabe National Forest officials. Highways 88, 89, and 4 are closed in the fire area.Officials said on Friday that the area of Markleeville and communities to the south are under mandatory evacuation orders.
