US Secretary of State: “Everyone must stop the escalation in Jerusalem. Israel has the right to defend itself.” The Jordanian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs, Ayman Safadi, stressed that the situation in Jerusalem must be controlled, because it is a very important matter.
“Safadi” said during a meeting with his American counterpart, Anthony Blinken, that the priority now is to stop the escalation, to ensure respect for international law and to allow the Palestinians the right to worship.
He added, “Maintaining peace and stability in Jerusalem is essential, and the current focus is on de-escalation.”
“Safadi” stressed that the illegal steps taken in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood and the Holy Haram al-Sharif must be stopped, the status quo in Jerusalem should be preserved and all laws respected.
“Therefore, we will discuss the situation and the political horizon that the United States wants, and we all see that peace is permanent and comprehensive on the basis of the two-state solution,” he said.
“We also want the United States to play a leading role in achieving the strategic peace that we all want, and we all want to achieve our strategic options with a two-state solution,” he stressed.
For his part, the US Secretary of State affirmed that everyone must stop the escalation and take the necessary steps to stop the tension in Jerusalem “and end the actions that we witnessed 24 hours ago.”
“We see that Israel has the right to defend itself and its lands, and we are concerned about the missiles,” he said.
Blinken added that US President Joe Biden is an old friend of Jordan, and so is Jordan a good friend.
The US Secretary of State stressed the need to stop the rocket attacks from Gaza on Israel “immediately”, and urged both sides to take the necessary steps to calm the situation.
